Informatica PowerCenter to Snowflake Migration

If you are still running Informatica PowerCenter, the clock is now running. Standard support for PowerCenter 10.5 ended on March 31, 2026; extended support runs into 2027 and sustaining support to 2029, each with fewer fixes and a larger bill. And on November 18, 2025 Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica, which makes the long-term roadmap for an on-premises ETL engine a question nobody outside Salesforce can answer.

The same is true for Talend 7 shops: Talend 7.3 reached end of life in November 2024, and the purchasable extended support ends December 2026.

For most teams that already use Snowflake, the answer is not to buy another ETL tool. It is to move the transformation logic into Snowflake, where it runs as SQL or Python on elastic compute, and to replace the ingestion layer with managed services. Our migration methodology

1. Assess

We export your PowerCenter repository and inventory every mapping, session, and workflow. Each mapping is classified by pattern — pass-through loads, slowly changing dimensions, aggregations, lookups, and the custom transformations that need a human — and scored for complexity. The output is a migration backlog with effort estimates and a clear view of what can be converted mechanically versus what needs redesign. Dead mappings (typically 20–40% of any mature repository) are identified and retired rather than migrated.

2. Convert

Ingestion moves to Openflow (Snowflake's managed, Apache NiFi-based integration service, GA since June 2025) for source connectors and CDC, or to Snowpipe / Snowpipe Streaming for file and event feeds. Transformations are rebuilt as dbt Projects on Snowflake (GA November 2025) — versioned, tested SQL models that run natively in the account — or as Dynamic Tables where a declarative, continuously refreshed pipeline fits better. Where a mapping pattern repeats hundreds of times, we generate the models from templates rather than hand-writing them.

3. Validate

Every converted pipeline runs in parallel with the original for an agreed window. We compare outputs at the row and aggregate level with automated reconciliation queries — counts, checksums, and business-key diffs — and every discrepancy is triaged and explained before sign-off. Nothing cuts over on trust.

4. Cut over and decommission

Cutover is staged by subject area, with rollback paths defined ahead of time. Once the last workflow is retired we walk a decommission checklist: scheduler jobs, service accounts, source-system grants, license renewals, and the PowerCenter infrastructure itself.

  • Transformation logic in version control, with tests, instead of in a proprietary repository
  • Ingestion on managed services rather than on servers your team patches
  • Compute that scales per workload and suspends when idle
  • No PowerCenter renewal in the next budget cycle
